Week 284: Wildlife Portraits

This week, we want to you take wildlife portrait photographs! Let’s take a look at how you can capture the faces and expressions of your favourite animals on camera. Perhaps you will photograph your local garden wildlife, and focus on birds at your feeder, or squirrels in your trees. Maybe you will head out to look for wildlife that is not so commonly found, and use a telephoto lens to create a wonderful portrait scene. Pay attention to eye contact, and how getting down to eye level with the animal you’re photographing can make for a more impactful composition. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for capturing new and interesting wildlife portraits are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring shots you can create.

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Sky – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Flynn Thaitanunde-Lobb: ‘Zooming in on part of the sky where a huge darkened cloud moved over and covered the sun completely. However, the bright yellow sunbeam could be seen from behind, providing a stark contrast between the two parts of the sky.’

This dramatic sky image is a thrilling and exciting composition. The balance between light and dark creates interest and intrigue in the scene, and greatly adds to the overall mood and tone of the image. A close up composition of a much larger subject also allows us to appreciate details and colours in a new way. Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
