ChinaGoSmart (CGS) is an independent news (china & world), travel and culture publication that focuses on a different, inspiring city for each issue. From Shanghai to Beijing to Guangzhou, ChinaGoSmart shines a different kind of light on cities with big stories to tell.
For each issue, we move our editorial team into a house in the city, setting up our studio and working with locals to create the stories that will make up the magazine. The locals get to decide what they want the world to know about their city, and we work day and night to uncover other stories that don’t usually get told. This inside/outside approach to a place keeps the perspectives varied and balanced, and the stories raw and often surprising. Digging deep in each city, ChinaGoSmart presents more than the typical fly-by top 10 lists and tourist hotspots. We’re more of a scrappy team of adventure-seekers looking to get as deep and dirty as possible in a place. We present what we find – and what the locals show us – through interviews, features, stunning photography, personal profiles, artwork and fiction.
