Weekly Photography Assignment: Night Sky
Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.
Week 301: Night Sky
Our theme this week is the Night Sky, and we’d love to see what fantastic photos you can create using the night sky. Astrophotography is an exciting field; you can use your camera to capture images of the night sky, showing parts of it that we can’t see with the naked eye. Maybe you will experiment with your shutter speed to try to create star trails. Perhaps you will look for shooting stars, or meteors. You may even get lucky and capture the milky way, or even northern lights! You may decide to use light painting, to light up the foreground of your subject, or to incorporate a tree or mountain into your astrophotography composition. You might even rather focus on the moon as your subject! Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for awesome night sky images are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.
Last week’s winner
Last week’s theme was Backyard Birds– and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Mark Guilfoyle: ‘House Sparrow looking at imitation bird figure atop the feeder.’
This charming image is piqued by wonderful storytelling, adding intrigue and comedy to a fascinating subject with a well thought out and inspired composition. Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
