BioLab Holdings Invests in Cold Plasma Technology to Advance Infection Control and Wound Care Innovation
BioLab Holdings, Inc., a leading U.S. medical manufacturer specializing in advanced wound care technologies, has announced a strategic investment and commercialization partnership with terraplasma medical GmbH, a German innovator in cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) technology. The alliance aims to bring a breakthrough portable antimicrobial device—known as plasmapax®—to clinicians and patients across the United States.
Terraplasma medical’s CE-marked, battery-powered CAP device generates cold plasma from atmospheric air to safely destroy microbes without chemicals or invasive procedures. Used in more than 100,000 treatments globally, the plasmapax® system offers a chemical-free, fast-acting solution for infection control in wound care, dermatology, and podiatry.
“Cold plasma is one of the most exciting frontiers in infection prevention,” said Dr. Carlos Encinas, Chief Science Officer at BioLab. “Terraplasma’s device brings decades of plasma science into a practical handheld format ready for real-world healthcare settings.”
The investment will accelerate FDA 510(k) clearance for U.S. use and leverage BioLab’s national distribution network to drive commercial adoption. Terraplasma’s majority shareholder, Dr. Christian Zschocke, highlighted BioLab’s entrepreneurial focus as a key factor in choosing the partner. “Together we can expand access to safe, effective antimicrobial solutions worldwide,” he said.
Each device supports over 120 treatments per charge and uses disposable sterile spacers for easy cleaning and patient safety.
“BioLab’s partnership with terraplasma marks a bold step in redefining infection control and wound healing innovation,” added BioLab President Jaime Leija.
With this collaboration, the two companies aim to reshape global wound care—bringing plasma medicine from the laboratory to everyday clinical use.
