Rombouts exhibition, Ghent

Rombouts exhibition, Ghent December 15 2022 Picture: MSK Ghent The museum of fine arts in Ghent is holding an exhibition on Theodor Rombouts (1597-1637), 'the virtuoso of Flemish Caravaggism'. Rombouts was a terrific painter, but much overshadowed by his non-Caravaggist Flemish contemporaries, such as Van Dyck. If he had been Dutch, like say Honthorst, he might be more remembered as part of the 'Dtuch Golden Age', but these are the idiosyncracies of art history, a discipline hooked on pigeonholing.  The show runs till 23rd April, more here.
