Dusty Hognose Snake (Heterodon gloydi)

After flipping a lot of artificial cover only to find a racer, I decided to cruise roads intersecting good habitat in hopes of finding male snakes moving across them. As I drove down one, I saw this snake stretched out on the opposite side of the road. One car drove over it but missed hitting the snake, but as I put my emergency lights on and got out another car drove past and barely clipped the snake. Aside from blood near the cloaca the snake seemed angry, but fine. After photos I released the snake on the sand prairie (where it was originally traveling) to continue it's journey.
